To make it worse, this accident took place at a model engineering society, where everyone is supposed to be having fun. All this prompted the rapid shu ing of pages in this issue to accommodate Alan MacFarlane’s advice on the safe handling of fuels for our steam engines. None of this is exciting, in many ways it’s only common sense, but the advice is something we all need to take on board. After all, getting together for a Steam Up is a big part of this hobby – which is why alongside the sensible advice, Dave Skertchly does his best to encourage readers to open their lines up to friends, family and fellow enthusiasts. Personally, I’d be happy to get a train around my line. After two years of hardly any use, relaying the track with rail clamps has highlighted a few issues with the geometry. I think I have worked out what’s wrong, if I have, I’ll explain how in the future issue. For the moment, I need to go back outside and scratch my head a little further... A little ingenuity at the Llangollen show saw my video camera take a trip around three different layouts for a passenger’s eye view.
