The two sides were to meet again in Bydgoszcz the following day in a re-arranged fixture from round seven, and many anticipated a massive win for Polonia. Surprisingly, Gniezno fought hard and contributed to a fairly good match as the hosts only secured their win in Heat 14 in which Matej Zagar and Adrian Miedzinski settled behind Oskar Fajfer, who made a successful return to competitive racing after injury. Division One leaders Zielona Gora had an easy Sunday win against Rybnik, whose resistance lasted only for the first couple of races. The feature of the meeting was some spectacular racing around the outside from Max Fricke. League leaders Opole triumphed at Pila in a match where only Artur Mroczka and Marcin Jedrzejewski offered any worthy opposition, while the visitors were again a very consistent team. Norbert Krakowiak ended the meeting with a paid maximum, while Torun’s best rider was Dane Emil Portner who scored paid 12 from his six appearances. On the same day, Rawicz Bears swept Tarnow Swallows aside as three Australians led the visitors to a massive 20-point win. ESBJERG 49 FJELSTED 35 FJELSTED fans did not expect a lot from this match as their team have always found life tough around the Granly Arena – and so it proved once again. The home team put pressure on right from Heat 1 and led 24-6 after five races. Jonas Jeppesen, with nine, and Niels-Kristian Iversen, with eight, from their first three races showed the way but full credit to reserve Emil Breum, who finished the night with a paid 13 score. There were few highlights for the Fjelsted team. Andrej Lebedev began slowly with just one point from his first two races but after that put up a fight with 14 points from his last five outings. HOLSTED 49 GRINDSTED 35 ON A perfect night for speedway with blue skies and a good crowd in attendance hoping for yet another Holsted win, things began badly for the home team with an engine failure for Nicki Pedersen – on his comeback from injury – in Heat 1. And when the Grindsted pairing of Francis Gusts and Lukas Fienhage raced away to a 5-1 win in Heat 3, there were some nervous faces amongst the crowd. But they need not have worried because Holsted suddenly found their form and looked unstoppable, three 5-1 wins taking the sting out of the Grindsted team. After that, it was plain sailing to Holsted’s sixth win of the season. They remain unbeaten this season and it is difficult to see any team stopping Holsted, other than injuries affecting them badly.
