Star letter LET’S HEAR IT FOR THE GIRLS
The editor’s letter in your July issue really struck a chord. While most professional chefs do seem to be men, I often hear them speaking in interviews of being inspired by their grandmothers’ and mothers’ meals. I’ve been cooking since I was a young girl, adapting recipes and creating my own, and my husband always tells me I should do it professionally. Over the years I’ve thanked him for the compliments but never taken him seriously. I now realise the biggest obstacle has been self-confidence, so it’s great to see female chefs showcased in your magazine and inspiring us all.

#COOKFORUKRAINE Food is such a lovely way to connect with family and make life-long memories. The childhood stories and family recipes that are of such significance to Olia Hercules and her Ukrainian family were especially poignant. It was wonderful to read how her fundraising efforts are getting such a fantastic response – food, love and togetherness indeed. LYNN, LEICESTERSHIRE
FREE FOR ALL Since being diagnosed with coeliac disease, I’ve had to adapt to a gluten-free diet. It’s been hard, but your magazine has lots of glutenfree options as well as tips for adapting regular recipes, including your lemon and elderflower cake, which I made for my sister’s wedding. It turned out so, so, so pretty – beyond what I thought I could do with it. There wasn’t a gluten-free crumb left at the end of the night, and the wedding planner even asked which baker we used so she could make recommendations! I’ve since sent lots of pics of the battersmeared recipe to friends and family, and have torn it out to keep in my drawer for next time. Thanks so much for bringing the recipe to me, which allowed me to play an extra-special role at my sister’s wedding. FRANKIE, CHESHIRE
DINNER PARTY WINNER Budgie Montoya’s Filipino pork (June issue) was a real hit with my friends.
Initially alarmed as I described my ketchup of bananas and soy sauce,
they were then intrigued by its history and delighted when they tasted it. The next day, I celebrated a rare night of culinary success with an omelette and that last bit of ketchup!

NOURISH BOWL ‘Another amazing meal – this rainbow nourish bowl. We made it to use up two open jars of pickled cabbage, but it was so good we’ll have to buy a new jar!’
