WITH THE BEGINNING of September, summer has officially come to an end. I have always loved the excitement of the back-to-school quality and opportunity to start afresh in September, so it’s an honour and privilege to take over the editorship of ICON.
In this issue, we look back over a season of thoughtprovoking design and we also look forward to what’s to come this month. As London Design Festival celebrates its 20th anniversary, and Design London returns for its second year, we bring you the highlights of this year’s new design innovations as the festival will once again shine a bright light on the city. Expect special features including an interview with Rotterdambased designer Sabine Marcelis, as she is about to unveil an outdoor installation at the London Design Festival.
From recycled rainwear to sculptural furniture, we also shine a spotlight on a new generation of designers who show Norway is at the top of its game.
Finally, and as we get ready for another year of LDF, I ’d like to pay tribute to Marcus Fairs, the founder and former Editor of ICON magazine, who tragically passed away on 30 June 2022. I am deeply shocked and saddened about Marcus’ sudden death and our industry losing a true visionary, a talented journalist and much-loved friend. In whatever role Marcus was known, he stood apart as someone truly special. He will be missed by many, but never will Marcus be forgotten by those who were fortunate enough to have known him. jessica-christin.hametner@icon-magazine.co.uk
