Poetry Wales is always open to all themes, but we often have a specific inflection to each issue. In November/December 2022, we will be opening submissions for 58.3 for which Grug Muse will be a co-editor. The issue is seeking poetries that engage with Cymraeg: they might be written in the Welsh language, have Cymraeg as a theme, or echo the practice of synthetic Scots intermingling languages or speaking in “Wenglish”. We also have more limited space for poems on the theme of language, especially those that speak to nonmajority languages or those beyond English. The submissions window for issue 59.1 will open in March/April 2023. We will be celebrating the South Wales Valleys and working-class areas like it across Wales. We would be particularly glad to see general submissions from those writers who define themselves as working class, and we seek to represent those whose working class identity might intersect with memberships of other groups traditionally marginalized, such as being a woman, a writer of the global majority, disabled poets, neurodiverse writers, and queer communities.
