AFTER DINNER CONVERSATION

Being human means making choices and continually constructing, and learning about, the kind of person we want to be. I can think of no story more noble than that. And, while many of our stories are about grand choices with huge planet-changing consequences, I side with Tolkien’s character Gandalf who says, it is the “small everyday deeds of ordinary folks that keep the darkness at bay.” I wish we got more submissions of this type. Small, hard choices, that go entirely unnoticed by the world, but are equally worthy of being written down and added to mythology. Do we publish “I made a deal with the devil” stories? Do we publish “I found the cure for cancer, but it comes at the expense of…” stories? Sure. These tropes are great onramps to our genre. However, if you are a reader, I hope you will consider being a writer and sending us stories about the unnoticed important choices you see in your everyday life. In other news, starting with our January 2023 edition, we will also be a monthly print publication. Our digital format continues, but feel free to head to our website to convert your digital subscription to a print + digital subscription today. Kolby Granville – Editor
