JAYANT KASHYAP LOVE POEM: RAIN Like every hour, I’d thought of you on that cool summer evening, in rain. We were on our roof in Allahabad, our bodies quietly sheltering dewdrops, like the leaves do after rain. In a quiet moment, our lips had touched and the world had melted like cotton candy, soft, on our tongue; like after it snows; like drops of rain. You’d looked at me, said that you loved me, said I’m telling you I always will; I want you like a river does banks, like it needs rain. I’m looking at you right now, my eyes loud like yours. I remember you’d said that, until that moment, you’d never really liked rain. We’d agreed that love is so much about learning. That winter doesn’t gather snow, but gives it a home; that memories are given a home by rain. Right now, I’m thinking about the times we shared a bit of whisky in a peopled room, your glass full of coke and water, sweet like rain. You say you remember all of this – Jayant Kashyap has received nominations for the Pushcart Prize and the Best of the Net, and has published two pamphlets, and a zine, Water (Skear Zines, 2021).
