RACHAEL DAVEY

NAMING HER HUNGERS

Land. Land above all. But also boats and the fine men in them. Their nets, their dreams, their greed or simple need. She relishes the careless, the stranded, day-trippers oblivious to tide, cockle pickers, digging in her maw. She loves a rig, a bridge, a pontoon, a seawall or a lightship. But land, land above all. Its crumbling edges, the way it yields so suddenly, totally. The way it gives itself, like coming home.

Rachael Davey is currently living and working on a Scottish seabird island.
