Brick by brick
This Is Pacifica, a Porto-dwelling design studio set up by Pedro Mesquita, Filipe Mesquita and Pedro Serrão in 2007, has unveiled its new Brick Book, which pays homage to Portuguese craftsmanship.
Finding its inspiration in Aires Mateus Architecture Studio’s Brick House, or Casa de Tijolo, entirely built using handmade Alentejo bricks, the hefty tome explores the importance of the home and the multitude of memories these hold.
Handmade with the same raw material, size and colour as the house’s original bricks, the first edition comprises 200 books and is filled with stories and photography of Portugal's picturesque Alentejo region. Beautifully capturing the historical province, part of Ribatejo and Estremadura, This Is Pacifica selected the materials for the book to reflect the region’s rich artisanship.
Using local clay and recycled paper for the cover and pages, the team also utilised LED technology to speed up the drying process and print the hardback using 40% less ink.
A rare collectible available in select bookstores and galleries worldwide, this unique volume showcases the beauty of Casa de Tijolo, while celebrating Portugal’s rich cultural heritage. showcase.thisispacifica.com
