Step 2 TURN over the top edge of the aida twice onto the inside by 6mm ( ⁄ in).Machineor catch stitch the seam in place. Step 3 WITH theright-sidestogether,placethe red gingham fabric on the aida, leaving threeblankaidasquaresbelowthe stitching. Pin and then sew across the seam.Theginghamfabricwillnowbe attached to the bottom of the aida. Step 4 WITH right-sidesfacing,foldthe gingham fabric to the back of the aida forminganenvelope,andleaving2cm ( ⁄ in) of gingham below the aida(please refer to the picture). Sew up the side seams.Youwillhaveexcessgingham fabric at the top of the envelope which will form the top flap. Fold the edge over twice onto the wrong side, and then stitch the seam in place. Step 5 TAKE a length of stranded cotton and tie knots at both ends. Step 1

STITCH the designs in the centre of your aida fabric following the chart, and using two strands for the cross stitch and one forthebackstitchandFrenchknots.Use thealphabetprovidedtopersonalise yourenvelope.Dependingontheletters you are using, add joining stitches to makethemintoascriptalphabet.

Step 2

TURN over the top edge of the aida twice onto the inside by 6mm ( ⁄ in).Machineor catch stitch the seam in place.

Step 3

WITH theright-sidestogether,placethe red gingham fabric on the aida, leaving threeblankaidasquaresbelowthe stitching. Pin and then sew across the seam.Theginghamfabricwillnowbe attached to the bottom of the aida.

Step 4

WITH right-sidesfacing,foldthe gingham fabric to the back of the aida forminganenvelope,andleaving2cm ( ⁄ in) of gingham below the aida(please refer to the picture). Sew up the side seams.Youwillhaveexcessgingham fabric at the top of the envelope which will form the top flap. Fold the edge over twice onto the wrong side, and then stitch the seam in place.

Step 5

TAKE a length of stranded cotton and tie knots at both ends. Sew to the centre of thelengthtothetopginghamflap,then repeat, addinganothertothetopofthe aida so that when tied together in a bow, they will close the envelope.
