Happy New Year, I hope you had a good Christmas and are now ready for a year of fantastic music, reading, listening and watching.

We put this issue together in record time to meet the printer’s festive deadline. And we managed it. Having some time off was a bonus.

The end of last year saw us work around a couple of themes, but this month we serve up a good old mix. Ahead of an exciting Arthur Lee and Love project, due for release in the summer on High Moon, we bring you an intriguing piece on Arthur’s ’70s versions of Love – we even got to talk with Joe Blocker, the drummer on the sadly maligned Reel To Real. It’s a great read. Then there’s Brighton indie/psych mavens 14 Iced Bears, celebrated jazz and library music voice Barbara Moore, the almost-legendary Wil Malone, and the sadly missed powerpop icon Dwight Twilley, along with the shining light in contemporary music production Jonathan Rado. We even squeeze in The Beatles, oh, and my old band The Nuthins too. Not bad for two weeks work. And as usual, there’s a whole lot more.

This year marks both our 30th year and 150th issue, so celebrations and special content are guaranteed. Shindig! readers really do feel like friends now, and there’s quite a few of you who have been with us from the very start, including writers. It’s been quite a journey. Over that time, we’ve spread our wings and embraced different forms of music, but it all feels like a natural progression. Nothing’s too jarring or desperate. If you are obsessed with brilliant music, you naturally absorb more.

If you haven’t subscribed yet, what are you waiting for?

See you next month, Jon ‘Mojo’ Mills, Editor-In-Chief

Shindig! recommend using the hi-fi gear of their media partners and sponsors. Left to right: Pro-Ject X2 turntable (bit.ly/3FzsvhV), Cambridge Audio EVO 150 (bit.ly/3qEUusx), EVO CD (bit.ly/462I6mz), and JBL L82s (bit.ly/3X7m3XA). This is a supreme hassle-free system for vinyl, CD, high-res streaming. We will be working very closely with Cambridge Audio moving forward, so watch this space. We use Chord cables (bit.ly/3sbhbp7)

Garage fan? An anthology of all the recordings our own Jon ‘Mojo’ Mills made with The Nuthins in the ’90s is released on Detour. Head to bit.
