Meet some of our writers in this edition. We asked what are you looking forward to in 2024?
SIU O’REILLY
Living in Edinburgh with her husband and son, Siu finds joy in her yoga practise and meditation. “When I have free time, I am always learning something new and seeking out new challenges whether it's arts and crafts or computer programming, I'll always be enrolled on a course somewhere! I am excited to discover new pursuits in 2024. My hypnobirthing journey inspired my interest in meditation and all things relating to the workings of the mind so I am looking forward to more personal growth in this area.” Read more about how Siu used the power of hypnotherapy during labour on page 21.
EMMA SVANBERG A Clinical Psychologist, Emma has worked with parents and families for over 20 years. Also known as the Mumologist, she lives with her family in Brighton. “I'd like 2024 to have very little excitement and a lot of rest.” She recently launched Unfurl – a collective of expert practitioners offering mental health and wellbeing support. Find online at thepsychologycooperative.substack.com. You can read more about Emma’s story and how her new book about embracing our full messy humanness can help to make us better parents on page 43.
ANJA FFRENCH The founding director of Mud & Bloom, Anja spends her days helping connect children with nature. She lives in Bristol with her partner and their three children aged five, nine and 11. “In my spare time I love going on family hikes and bike rides, camping, trail running and drinking white wine! My life has been so busy these past few years with the business and young children. So in 2024 I'm looking forward to spending more time in the garden!” You can read Anja’s ideas for getting the whole family outside during the colder months on page 31.
ALISHA LESTRADE As a self-taught sewer, Alisha has always been crafty, making gifts for friends and family. And it was one of these gifts that led to the thriving business, Thimble and Doll that she runs today. “I made my first dolls for my nieces, because they wanted toys that looked like them. There was nothing that represented them, in shops or online at the time, so I created them.” Today you can order a bespoke doll, handmade by Alisha at thimbleanddoll.co.uk. See gorgeous photos of Alisha’s creations on page 29.
