In Christianity, three hares represent the trinity of vitality, rebirth, and resurrection. Like in many cultures, hares play an important role in German art, not only as a mythical or religious symbol but in secular depictions such as the stunning observational work by Albrecht Dürer. For German artist Dorothea Prühl, Christianity has little or no bearing. The fascination with and thorough study of the shape and movement of hares is the primary influence in the creation of this work.
