MEET THE TEAM Paul Browne A music enthusiast interested in a broad spectrum of music genres. He is the founder of the original OMD Website, while also providing design concepts and writing sleeve notes for various OMD reissues. Paul founded The Electricity Club, a dedicated blog focussed on exploring electronic music. paulbrowne@blitzedmag.com Imogen Bebb Imogen is a musician, author and journalist who also writes regularly for Electronic Sound magazine. Her first book was about Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark and was published in 2022. Mik Scarlet A broadcaster, journalist, musician and DJ, and is probably best known for being one of the first wheelchair users to gain a celebrity status on our TV screens. He’s been a regular face in the UK media for 30 years, writing for newspapers, fashion and music magazines, and has written sleeve notes for compilations. Lucy Robinson Blitzed Magazine’s resident Professor of 80s history, who will be contributing regular articles, and is a Professor of Collaborative History at the University of Sussex. She has researched the Falklands War, charity singles, music videos, fanzines, protests and the politics of popular culture. Kevin Burke Kevin is simply a fan of music. He enjoys the sounds that have shaped our lives. As a trained journalist and music theorist, his motivation is based around two ideals, to highlight and to educate. Kevin’s greatest accomplishment is understanding Lou Reed’s Metal Machine Music. Rusty Egan remains as one of the most respected figures of that era and Blitzed itself wouldn’t exist without the foundations that Rusty established with the launch of the Blitz Club (in conjunction with co-founder Steve Strange). Although Rusty has featured in the magazine previously, this issue has allowed us to showcase his talents and his future plans in a very special feature interview. The release of his new compilation album helps to lend some context to the importance of the Blitz Club’s legacy. Rather than simply focus on the bands that the scene helped launch, the album zeroes in on the music than influenced the culture that was to follow. This resulted in the likes of Kraftwerk and The Human League rubbing shoulders with tunes from more eclectic sources such as Lou Reed, The Slits and The Walker Brothers. It’s a testimony to Rusty’s shrewd ear that he knew what music would capture the discerning tastes of the average Blitz Club attendee. Meanwhile, the magazine also turns its attention to some of the other iconic figures of the 70s and 80s music scene with an exclusive feature interview with Lene Lovich. The ‘Queen of Stiff’ discusses her unique musical approach as a new box set celebrates her Stiff Records era. Meanwhile, with the release of a new Blancmange compilation, we chat to Neil Arthur and also catch up with Martin McAloon on Prefab Sprout’s legacy. 2024 also sees more anniversaries being celebrated and we dive into the history behind some classic albums, including David Bowie’s Diamond Dogs, Thompson Twins’ Into The Gap and Nik Kershaw’s Human Racing.
