During Milan Design Week the Issey Miyake store is always a venue for eye-catching collaborations with creative professionals, and for 2024 the fashion brand partnered with Dutch art collective We Make Carpets. The installation project was named Fold and Crease—refering to Issey Miyake’s apparel aesthetic—and the resulting artwork was the Skewer Carpet 2, made out of 60,000 bamboo skewers, painted in four colours and stuck in foam. The wooden frame that held the foam allowed it to undulate and create folds and creases in the layer of skewers. Somehow the wooden sticks were able to flow and move like folded material.
