WELCOME How to make friends and influence people ILLER M: STEVE PHOTO Do it your way I’M a staunch advocate of using Land Rovers as they were intended to be used. Few things make me smile like getting some mud between the tyre treads and seeing water lapping at the bonnet while fording deep water. But recently I ’ve seen the value in just owning them, regardless of whether you like off-roading, greenlaning, camping out, adventure travel or using your Land Rover for work. If you’re around other people who love the vehicles for what they are, no matter if they’re totally original, meticulously restored, modified or well-used and dog-eared, you’re guaranteed a good time. A perfect example of this was the Lucas Classic event at the Shelsley Walsh hillclimb in Worcestershire. There was a fantastic selection of Land Rovers from throughout the ages in all sorts of shapes and sizes, and every single owner I saw and spoke to throughout the day had a huge smile on their face. Those smiles got even bigger when we retired to the campsite, where Britpart ’s Paul Myers (right) had deployed his tailgate bar to the back of the Series IIA . What a brilliant add-on, especially when hooked up to a firkin of Ludlow Gold ale. Stood on a hillside, cold pint in hand, chatting and laughing with others who love Land Rovers – summer evenings don’t get any better. Keep an eye out for my report in an upcoming issue of LRM. For now, though, enjoy this bumper 144-page issue of Land Rover Monthly – it ’s packed with great Land Rover content, including a special section on how to optimise your own Land Rover for whatever you like to do most. There’s also a stunning, tastefully-updated Defender 110 300Tdi, packed Classics section and trustworthy tech advice that you know you can rely on. Enjoy the issue.
