LETTER FROM THE PBS We have some wonderful poetry to welcome in the Autumn and we couldn’t be more delighted to announce that Raymond Antrobus is receiving the poetselectors’ Choice this season. Raymond has supported and taken part in many Poetry Book Society events and promotions over the years and we follow his career and read his work with real joy. We hope to reveal some Poetry Book Society merchandise featuring his words soon! We have a stellar line–up of recommendations this season with some fascinating and insightful pieces from Romalyn Ante, Lorcán Black, Kathleen Jamie and Danez Smith, plus poems by Apollinaire and Khlebnikov, translated by Robert Chandler, described as a “treasury” by our selector Shivanee Ramlochan. I would like to make note of the posthumous debut by Gboyega Odubanjo which is this season’s Special Commendation. Gboyega tragically died aged twenty seven last year and a foundation is being set up in his memory to support low-income Black writers. If any readers would like to contribute there is a “GoFundMe” page which we can help you find. A warm welcome to Alycia Pirmohamed, our new pamphlet selector who joins Arji Manuelpillai. Alycia first came to our attention as our Student Poetry Prize winner in 2017 and went on to win a Recommendation in 2022, so we’re delighted her involvement has come full circle to nurture new talent. We have lots of events lined up for you this Autumn, with Jackie Kay and Jo Clement appearing at Durham Book Festival on the 11th October and Romalyn Ante with Roy McFarlane at NCLA, Newcastle University, on the 21st November. We’ll also be the official booksellers at a Climate Poetry Festival in Leeds on the 18th-19th October. Don’t forget the Forward Prize will be announced at Durham Book Festival this year too – you can order all ten of the shortlisted titles on our website for only £90 including free UK postage!
