Fans of Grand Designs have much to look forward to this autumn as the TV series marks 25 years on our screens. To kick off the celebrations, a new book, Grand Designs at 25, out on 5 September, is Kevin McCloud’s selection of inspirational projects from across the decades, and he writes about why he chose some of them in his column on P13. Plus, you’ll find an exclusive extract – exploring the legacy of a truly ground-breaking property from the first series – on P16.
I suspect there are some architectural icons of the future in the upcoming series, some of which are revealed on P21. The season starts on on Channel 4 (channel4. com) with a special anniversary episode, and you’ll get to see the first of the new projects a week later, with episodes revisiting past builds also included in the schedule.
For even more inspiration for your own build or home improvement project, head to Grand Designs Live (granddesignslive.com), from 2-6 October at the NEC Birmingham. Returning this year is the Grand House, where you can browse through rooms and an outdoor space featuring innovative designs and stylish products, and making a special appearance is the Grand Designs at 25 feature – find out more from P25.
