THE BIG SHOT GRAND UNION CANAL
‘The waterway bustles with walkers, pleasure boat users, cyclists and anglers’ (p45)
Where are we? Grand Union Canal
Why tour here? A watery link between Birmingham in the West Midlands and London in the south-east, the Grand Union Canal measures some 137 miles and takes in 158 locks between Brentford on the Thames and Gas Street Basin in Birmingham.
Once a vital trading route, boat traffic is now largely comprised of leisure craft users keen to take in the delights of the Chilterns and rural stretches of Northants and Warwickshire, where they can experience sumptuous sunrises,
as seen in this photograph.
Don’t miss... The Iron Trunk Aqueduct makes a wonderful spectacle as it carries the Grand Union Canal over the
River Ouse. Find more UK waterways to visit, using your caravan as a base, on p44.
