Where their 2018 debut album Siren explored legends of the shapeshifting selkie, the recently released second album Nothing Will Grow In The Soil is inspired by ancient yew trees. Originating as a solo CD release in 2005, CLARK is a synth-based sci-fi space adventure project combining post-industrial minimal beats with contemporary music. As well as touring CLARK, in conjunction with Litó Walkey, Hauf also plays keyboards with Austrian indie rock band Naked Lunch and runs the Shameless record label. hauf.klingt.org, shamelessrecords.rocks 5 Masayoshi Fujita featuring Moor Mother “Our Mother’s Lights” From Migratory (Erased Tapes) Japanese vibraphonist and marimba player Masayoshi Fujita returns with his new album Migratory, which features vocal contributions from Moor Mother and Hatis Noit. The record continues Fujita’s experimentation with the marimba and synthesizers commenced on his 2021 album Bird Ambience, which followed the release of the vibraphone triptych Stories (2012), Apologues (2015) and Book Of Life (2018), and two earlier albums under the alias el fog. masayoshifujita.com, erasedtapes.com 7 Theodor Kentros “Trystero (Wire Tapper Edit)” From Trystero (Moloton) Comprised of work produced from 2021–24, Stockholm based composer and musician Theodor Kentros’s debut LP Trystero brings together organ drones, tape loops and string synthesis. Kentros also writes music for film, theatre and multi-disciplinary installations, is part of the drone duo Sänkt with Linus Hillborg, and punk groups Kerosene Kream Zand Caligulas Mamma. He co-runs the label XKatedral as well as his own Kalkatraz Cassettes. theodorkentros.com, moloton. bandcamp.com 2 Daniela Huerta “Fondo” From Soplo (Elevator Bath) Also known as Baby Vulture, Mexican born, Berlin based multimedia artist and DJ Daniela Huerta uses mythology as a springboard to explore the origins of consciousness, archetypes, rituals and collective memory. As well as collaborating with Natalia Escobar in the interdisciplinary duo Koaxula, she has worked with artists including Ale Hop, Lucrecia Dalt and Concepción Huerta, and has composed music for Iván Argote’s films. huertadaniela.com, elevatorbath.com 4 Deaf Squad x Flowdan “Collateral Damage (Wire Short Edit)” From Black And Red (Deaf Jam) Sharing an equal affinity for guitar noise and sound system/bass culture, London production duo Deaf Squad are made up of RZR (formerly known as Dr Colossus) and Memari Man, previously of Kings Of The City. As well as East London MC Flowdan, Deaf Squad’s debut EP Black And Red features vocals from Warrior Queen, Thryn and Nah Eeto, over a production that takes cues from Trent Reznor’s sound design and The Bug’s sonic mass. deafsquad.com 6 Stina Stjern “Vivid Peace Restored” From Vivid Peace Restored (SusannaSonata) Norwegian musician and composer Stina Moltu’s Stina Stjern project embraces jazz, art pop and free improvisation. Arising out of a longstanding love of cassette tapes as a sound source, Vivid Peace Restored is her first full-length solo album composed for cassettes, tape recorders and voice. Her cassette compositions also featured in fellow Norwegian artist Susanna’s trilogy exploring the poetry of Baudelaire. stinastjernmusic.com, susannasonata.com 8 NLF3 “God’s Lost” From O Days (Prohibited) NLF3 are the Parisian trio of Fabrice Laureau (bass, kalimba, synth), Nicolas Laureau (guitars, keys, vocals) and Jean-Michel Pirès (drums). The tracks on their latest album O Days began as files exchanged during the 2020 lockdown, inspired and shaped by the constraints of the domestic environment. 9 Schande “Last Horse” From Once Around (Daydream Library Series) Jen Chochinov aka Schande has been active in DIY rock circles since the early 1990s – including the trio Shove – and more recently a member of The Thurston Moore Guitar Ensemble, and her debut album Once Around was released in September. He previously released two LPs on the German electronica label Pingipung: 2020’s Fever and 2022’s Not One, Not Two, a remote collaboration with Istanbul based percussionist Yumurta. Confining himself to prepared bass guitar, he extracts melodies and rhythms rich with harmonics and percussive energy. In addition to the albums Niton, Tiresias and Cemento/ Cemento 3D, they have created soundtracks for film, theatre and art installations. Performed by a pared down trio from the French group ensemble 0, the vibraphones’ resonant metal bars are accompanied by 20 speakers, each playing its own pulsating electronic part to create a scintillating minimalist array. tristanperich.com, erasedtapes.com 16 Rafael Anton Irisarri “Dispersion of Belief” From FAÇADISMS (Black Knoll Editions) New York based composer, producer and mastering engineer Rafael Anton Irisarri is the founder of Black Knoll mastering studios. His own work blends ambient, classical and experimental elements, using distortion and layered textures to explore nostalgia and the emotional interplay between sound and place.
