Editor’s letter DEAR READERS, I generally welcome and embrace the change of season, but after a soggy (and often chilly) summer, my feelings about the arrival of autumn are somewhat dampened. As I type, the morning mist has turned to mizzle, but there is a glimmer of hope as the watery sun makes a valiant effort to shine through the grey clouds. Whatever your feelings about the onset of autumn, we have plenty in this issue to keep you inspired and enter tained. I think it’s fair to say that we love Dame Jilly Cooper. Her books have sold more than 11 million copies in the UK alone, and ahead of the most recent adaptation of Rivals to grace our TV screens, Juanita Coulson chats to her about how she thinks the woke generation will react to the depiction of life in the 1980s, as well as her love of dogs. Larushka Ivan-Zadeh also catches up with one of the stars of the new production, Lisa McGrillis. Rebecca Wallersteiner meets the acclaimed biographer Sonia Purnell, who reveals all about another lady who was no stranger to a raunchy lifestyle: the wife of Randolph Churchill and one-time US Ambassador to France, Pamela Churchill Harriman. Maureen Paton talks to the designer Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen and, at the opposite end of the style spectrum, Gillian Spickernell and Liz Hodgkinson debate the merits or otherwise of personal shopping t rol leys. We introduce you to the physiotherapist Will Harlow, who shares his secrets for thriving beyond 50 without pain or pills, and Dr Sue Hyde extols the importance of f r iendships for keeping you healthy in body and mind.
