Venues SETTING THE SCENE TAMSIN ELLIOTT Bristol Musician, composer and film-maker. Her musical projects include Frey, Solana, Hedera and her duo with Tarek Elazhary What are your favourite venues to play in Bristol? The Wardrobe Theatre, Boiling Wells Amphitheatre (an outdoors wooden amphitheatre in St Werburghs) for the brilliant ‘Outlandish Nights’ concert series, and Bristol Folk House. What’s the best gig you’ve been to in the city? This year Lady Maisery at Lantern Hall, Bristol Beacon was brilliant . I’d also like to shout out Cuculi Records. Their ‘Cuculi Presents’ shows are wonderful. What’s your favourite English festival? Being originally from Suffolk I may be biased, but FolkEast is one of the best fests both to play, and enjoy. The whole festival is built with love. There’s a real attention to detail and care for artists and punters alike. The programming is excellent , and the late night sessions are cracking too. Outside of Bristol, where’s your favourite place to play in England? There are a couple of amazing venues which stand out: UpFront Arts in the Lake District , near Penrith, is a family-run puppet theatre and arts venue. They look after artists so well and the coffee is excellent . The Lost Arc in Rhayader, mid Wales, also deserves a mention.
