I was born in Gateshead so it’s always grounding to play at The Glasshouse (formerly The Sage Gateshead), a striking glass building nestled on the south bank of the River Tyne with stunning views. I’m looking forward to performing our winter album there in December as it’s always special to play to a home crowd. Any other favourite cultural spots in the area? The Ouseburn valley is the cultural hub of Newcastle. You can find vibrant cafes and pubs, as well as breweries, potteries, artist studios, practice rooms. There’s a children’s book museum, an urban farm and horse stables, and some of the best venues. The Cumberland Arms, The Cluny, Cobalt , new Byker venue The Grove and lots of brewery spaces doing pop-up shows and events. There is always something interesting and unexpected happening in the Ouseburn. Do you have a favourite English festival experience? I remember playing Cambridge Folk Festival one year with Brighouse and Rastrick Brass who finished off by walking through the audience still playing, to much delight and surprise - ours too! Playing the Green Man main stage as the sun went down in 2010 is a special memory. And, then there’s WOMAD, Glastonbury, Warwick Folk Festival, and all the others, so much fun to be had.
