Cover: Santa Special trains are highly important revenue earners for many of the UK’s narrow gauge railways but as you will read in this issue several lines faced a trying, and expensive, start to their festive season due to the effects of winter storms. One line where services went ahead was the Leighton Buzzard Railway, former Portuguese Orenstein & Koppel 0-6-0WT ‘Pedemoura’ pictured departing Pages Park on 4th December. The inset shows a topical seasonal scene on the world’s most northerly tram system which celebrated its centenary in 2024. Sjors van Dongen tells its story in this issue. Main photo: Stuart Chapman
