The Bystander, October 30, 1940 No. 1924. Vol. CXLVIII. The Bystander HOME GUARD " The Old and Bold " This white-haired veteran of past campaigns has gone back to school at the War Office's new training centre for the Home Guard (latest nickname, The Old and Bold "). This school at Hurlingham replaces Osterley Park as chief training ground. Here from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. for three (later on for five) days, members of the Home Guard will learn about the latest arms and tactics, under a Commandant and staff of Regular Army officers and men. Instructors from the International Brigade have also been transferred from Osterley Park to Hurlingham. The brief intensive training should give pupils a new perspective of the Home Guard's extremely important place in the defence scheme, and send them back to their units primed with enthusiasm as well as instruction to hand on to their mates
