Born in Buenos Aires, Luis Bacalov is known principally as a composer of film soundtracks. Misa Tango, his first major symphonic/choral composition, combines the mass as a form of great spiritual and musical tradition with elements of ethnic and urban music. In the words of tenor Placido Domingo: "Misa Tango is a sacred piece but it has all the rhythms and the expressive power of our century."
