‘I found myself thinking of Roald Dahl, Douglas Adams and Terry Pratchett. Wise, funny, and above all, human’ Neil Gaiman

Gollancz Science Fiction & Fantasy • July 2013

MITCH BENN Terra An SF fable for the young at heart. Terra was born in our world, a few years ago. Her parents quarrelled all the time. And then one day a quarrel was interrupted by a terrible accident and Terra was rescued from Earth, from her family, from her humanity, by an alien. And taken to the planet Fnnr to start a new life. Now she is about to start at a new school for the first time. The alien who kidnapped her is the only father she has ever known, an alien world the only home. But it is a world that is spiralling towards war. Will Terra's humanity save this new world? Terra is a warmly funny tale of a human girl growing up on an alien world. Compared by Neil Gaiman to Terry Pratchett, Douglas Adams and Roald Dahl it marks the beginning of an intelligent and hilarious new SF trilogy for all readers. Mitch Benn is a well-known comedian and satirical songwriter and is most famous for his appearances on BBC Radio 4 comedy The Now Show with Steve Punt and Hugh Dennis. He regularly tours his live show of music and comedy to sell-out crowds around the country and has a large online fan base, including over 20,000 Twitter followers. He sold Terra to Gollancz after an informal meeting which came about from a Twitter conversation between Mitch and Gollancz Deputy Publishing Director Simon Spanton.
