CONTENTS I RAYMONDCARR,whose Spain: A History (Oxford University Press) was reviewed by John Adamson last month, has written extensively on Spanish and Latin American history, as well as on English foxhunting. His Diary of the Spanish Civil War remains one of the few reliable documents from that dismal episode. VICTORIA GLENDINNINGhas returned from France to the great delight of London, and is busily finishing her novel, to be called Tender. Although it is nearly finished, nobody has any idea what i t is about. We must await the moment. T I MRICEis a revered figure i n cricketing circles, having produced various books on the subject. Although he may chiefly be remembered for his musicals and songs, his kindness to a hundred good causes, including Literary Review, will not be forgotten. KATHRYNHUGHES'SGeorge Eliot: The Last Victorian (Fourth Estate) has won the James Tait Black Award. She is currently writing a biography of Mrs Beeton and is trying hard to learn how to cook. ANDREWTAYLORis the author of God's Fugitive: The Life of C M Doughty. His biography of the cartographer Gerardus Mercator will be published next spring by HarperCollins. CHRISTOPHERHART'Sfirst novel, The Harvest, was shortlisted for the James Tait Black Memorial Prize, and is published by Faber. JOHNGRIBBIN'SStardust is published next month by Allen Lane The Penguin Press. TOMHOLLAND'SThe Sleeper in the Sands is published by Abacus.
