TheNextIssueofMPT The springissue of ModernPoetry inTranslation(Third Series, Number9) will becalled‘Palestine’. The issue will be dedicated to Palestine, to the place itself, itschanginggeographical shape; andto Palestineas alocationinthemind, theideaof theplace, foranArab, anIsraeli, a Jew, a Christian, a Muslim, anunbeliever. Palestine: place, aspiration, myth and reality, through manycenturies. We want poetry, original and translated, essays, anecdotes, photographs, all of the highest quality, treating, inwhatever ways, the topic of Palestine inits terrible complexity. This issue of MPTwill present a varietyof perspectives, andwill seekthroughpoetryand translation to promote an understanding of different points of view. Individual contributors will see things fromtheir own perspective. All together, they may perhaps illuminate one another and be an image of a necessaryco-existence. Submissionsshouldbesentby1February2008,please,in hardcopy, withreturnpostage, toTheEditors, Modern Poetryin Translation,TheQueen’sCollege,Oxford,OX1 4AW. Unless agreedinadvance, submissions by email will not be accepted. Only very exceptionally will we considerworkthathasalreadybeenpublishedelsewhere. Translators arethemselves responsiblefor obtainingany necessarypermissions. Since we dosometimes authorize furtherpublicationononeortwoveryreputablewebsites of work that has appeared in MPT, the permissions shouldcoverthatpossibility.
