OTHER CONTRIBUTORS Ali Bader is an award-winning Iraqi novelist and journalist. He has a degree in Western Philosophy and French Literature from Baghdad University. He has published eleven novels, two with English editions, Papa Sartre, for which he received the State Prize for Literature in Baghdad, and The Tobacco Keeper, longlisted for the 2009 IPAF. Paul Blezard is a writer and broadcaster. He presented “Between the Lines” and has chaired numerous literary events. He was a judge of the 2014 Saif Ghobash Banipal Prize for Arabic Literary Translation. Raphael Cohen has an MA in Semitics from the University of Chicago. His translations of novels from Arabic to English include Status Emo by Eslam Mosbah and The Bridges of Constantine by Ahlem Mosteghanemi. He is contributing editor of Banipal. Charbel Dagher is a professor at the University of Balamand in Lebanon. He has published more than forty books in Arabic and French, among which novels, poetry and books on Islamic and Modern Art. He is considered an innovator of prose poetry and his poems have been translated into several languages, including English, French, German, Italian and Japanese. Huda Fakhreddine is Assistant Professor of Arabic literature at the University of Pennsylvania, USA. She holds an MA in English literature from the American University of Beirut and a PhD in Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations from Indiana University. Her work focuses on modernist movements or trends in Arabic poetry and their relations to Arabic literary tradition. Jawdat Fakhreddine is a Lebanese poet and professor of Arabic Literature and Criticism at the Lebanese University in Beirut. He has published several collections of poetry, including Awham Rifiyya (Rural Illusion, 1980) and Samawat (Skies, 2002). He has also published two books of literary criticism and a number of studies and reviews. Some of his poems have been translated into English, French and German.

Michael Hulse is professor of poetry and comparative literature at the University of Warwick. He is an award-winning poet and translator of German. Among his most important works are the collections The Secret History (Arc, 2009) and Half-Life (Arc, 2013), the latter chosen by John Kinsella as a Book of the Year. Robin Moger is a translator of Arabic literature currently living in Cape Town, South Africa. He has translated a number of novels, among them Youssef Rakha’s The Crocodiles, Where Pidgeons Don’t Fly by Yousef al-Mohaimeed (2014) and Ahmed Mourad’s Vertigo (2011). Shakir Noori is an Iraqi novelist, journalist and translator. He has an MA in English Literature and a PhD in Cinema and Theatre from the Sorbonne. He has published eight novels and won the Ibn Battuta Prize for Travel Literature. Clare Roberts has a BA in Arabic and Islamic Studies (Oxford University) and an MA from SOAS, London, in Arabic Poetry and Turkish Politics. She worked with Banipal as an intern. Anton Shammas is a Palestinian writer, translator and professor of Arabic and Comparative Literature, Univ. of Michigan, and a Banipal contributing editor. He wrote Arabesques in Hebrew, and translated into Hebrew three novels of Palestinian writer Emile Habiby. Aoe Tanami is a Japanese researcher in Middle Eastern Studies, Chief Research Fellow of the Center for Asian Pacific Studies, Seikei University, Japan. In recent years she has been following the cultural activities and contemporary literature of Palestine. She is the author of the award-winning Japanese book Absentees’ Israel: Culture of Occupation and Palestine and is strongly committed to the Palestine issue. Stephen Watts is a poet, editor and translator. He has two bilingual English-Italian works, The Mountain Language/Lingua di montagna (2008) and Journey Across Breath/Tragitto nel respiro (2011), and six other collections of poems. His own poetry is translated into Italian, Arabic, Czech, Bengali inter alia. He is a consulting editor of Banipal and a regular poetry reviewer.
