THOMAS LOVELL BEDDOES SOCIETY

The Thomas Lovell Beddoes Society was set up in 1994 to encourage a revival of interest in this powerful but unjustly neglected English poet and other members of his remarkable family, such as his father, the physician and scientist Dr Thomas Beddoes, and his aunt, the novelist Maria Edgeworth. The Society also acts as a focus for Beddoes family history.

The Society is a member of the Alliance of Literary Societies. It issues an annual Newsletter and a number of booklets, mostly of literary criticism, on Beddoes-related topics and has produced a tape-recording of readings from Beddoes’s poetry. Its Annual General Meeting is held in a place with Beddoes connections, differing from year to year, and usually takes the form of a residential weekend with informal lectures and guided walks.
