Chronology 1885 October 30: Ezra Pound born in Hailey, Idaho, to Homer Pound (1858–1942) and Isabel Weston (1860–1948). 1887 Family moves to New York and ( June 1889) to Philadelphia. 1898 Summer trip to Europe with mother and great aunt Frank Weston: London, Brussels, Cologne, Bingen, Lucerne, Milan, Genoa, Pisa, Rome, Naples, Florence, Venice, Como, Paris. 1901–03 Admitted to University of Pennsylvania; takes courses in Liberal Arts. Meets William Carlos Williams and Hilda Doolittle. 1902 Second European summer tour with Aunt Frank and parents: Granada, Gibraltar, Tangiers, Venice, London. 1903 Transfers to Hamilton College, Clinton, NY. Studies Romance languages with William P. Shepard. 1905 May: ‘Belangal Alba’ published in Hamilton Literary Magazine. Graduates as Bachelor of Philosophy.  Returns to University of

September: Publishes first article. 1907–08 Instructor of Romance languages, Wabash College, Crawfordsville, Indiana. 1908 March 17: Sails from New York to Gibraltar. April: Proceeds by ship from Gibraltar to Genoa. Travels in Northern Italy (Pavia, Verona). Settles in Venice. July: A Lume Spento (poems) self-published in Venice. August: Arrives in London, where he remains until 1920. December: A Quinzaine for this Yule: Being Selected from a Venetian Notebook published by Elkin Mathews. 1909 Lectures at London Regent Street Polytechnic on ‘Development of Literature in Southern Europe’.
