Dolforwyn was the last castle of the last Welsh prince of north Wales. The photo above shows Dolforwyn as it was in 1980 before excavations began: note the single lump of masonry sticking up above the turf at the centre. Compare photo opposite.

Left. Inside the great keep, showing the later division wall. On the right is the impression where a primary vertical post has been removed. The doorway on the left, with its fine ashlar masonry may have been inserted when the castle was already in English hands.
