Molaise (page 37) A thirteenth-century wooden statue of the sixth-century Irish saint Molaise was, until the 1950s, kept in a building known as St Molaise’s House, in the monastic settlement on the island of Inishmurry off the Sligo coast. The statue was traditionally removed from the house and venerated on the saint’s feast day. In the eighteenth century an attempt was made by Loftus Jones of Ballisodare to burn it as an idol. It is currently housed in the Collins Barracks section of the Irish National Museum.
