As an Axe Misses the Tree

As an axe misses the tree and a branch misses the bird, as the ocean misses a sea and a poem misses the word.

As a wave misses the moon and purple misses blue, as a song misses the tune and a question misses who?

As a month misses the week and a bulb misses the lamp, as a skylight misses the street and speakers miss the amp.

As a scratch misses the itch and a plaster misses thumbs, as a candle misses the wick and Earth misses the sun.

As the eggcup misses the egg and an ark misses the flood, as a knee misses the leg and veins miss blood.

As a mule misses the horse and laughter misses mirth, as a coffin misses its corpse, as death misses birth.
