WORDS FROM OUR ASSOCIATE SUPORTER THE LOEWE FOUNDATION PRESENTS: THE 2018 LOEWE CRAFT PRIZE EXHIBITION THE DESIGN MUSEUM, LONDON 4 MAY–17 JUNE 2018 What is the future of craftsmanship? This seminal question inspired The LOEWE FOUNDATION to create the world’s inaugural contemporary craft prize in 2016.Attracting a plethora of the world’s most prolific artisans, the LOEWE Craft Prize quickly established itself as an unparalleled universal portrait of culture, creativity and cognisance. This year, LOEWE invites you to ponder the latest chapter in this ever-evolving story at London’s Design Museum. F rom 4 May to 17 June the LOEWE Craft Prize exhibition will unite exemplars of the world’s contemporary high-end craft under the one roof  — illustrating how time-honoured techniques can thrive alongside modern forms of expression. F ounded as a collective craft workshop in 1846, LOEWE has always had an unwavering commitment to traditional techniques, state-of-the-art technologies and artisanal excellence. This enduring vision has steered the house through three separate centuries. Established in 1988, the LOEWE FOUNDATION has sought to expand upon these values through its patronage of poetry, dance, music, architecture, photography, design and craftsmanship. The LOEWE Craft Prize deepens this longstanding vision, celebrating craftsmanship as the essence of the house’s heritage, while shining a light on humanity’s shared past, present and future. F or the second edition of the prize, the distinguished jury considered over 1,900 submissions to select 30 finalists  —   six of which hail from the United Kingdom.   The winner wil l be announced in London on 3 May. Sinc e time immemorial, artisans have colourfully contributed to our collective narrative. While scanning the horizon of contemporary craftsmanship, LOEWE strongly believes that we must never eschew this storied heritage. The future   – much lik e craftsmanship itself  —  cannot be under stood without casting one’s eye back to our collaged past. In 201 8 LOEWE invites you to the LOEWE Craft Prize exhibition, as London becomes the locus of this all-embracing conversation. craftprize@loewe.es loewecraftprize.com +34 91 204 1455 LOEWE 25
