GALERIE METZGER Founded in 1996, the gallery focuses on the diverse expressive possibilities of contemporary art in fired clay, from exquisite examples of vessel ceramics to sculptural pieces, all of which go beyond traditional notions of “applied” art. Against the backdrop of the bare stone walls of the gallery with their wabi-sabi aesthetic, each exhibition conducted in the context of the annual succession of spring, summer and autumn comes across as excitingly different and new. The exhibits frequently appear in a dialogue with contemporary painting born of a kindred spirit. The gallery programme includes both German and international artists. In particular, the gallery is responsible for the artistic legacy of ceramic sculptor Klaus Lehmann, who died in 2016. Gallery owner Angelika Metzger would like to pass on to as many visitors as possible the statement: “Art is simply essential to me.”
