Its largest island, Santiago, hosts this yearly jazz festival that both looks outwards across the Atlantic to the American classical form, while also accommodating for local artistry and sounds from the African continent. Nigerian musician Adé Bantu, and Santiago’s very own Mário Lúcio have already been confirmed for this year. This tenth anniversary edition will pay tribute to two classic Cape Verdean groups: Os Tubarões (The Sharks) & funaná revivalists Bulimundo. www.krioljazzfestival.com 04 SONGLINES › INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL GUIDE 2018-19 WWW.SONGLINES.CO.UK

Druga Godba, see p7 Benigar Bogdan Programme director Describe your festival in three words: Unique, charming, moving. What is your festival’s USP? A combination of very modest priced day and festival passes with free public transport within the city (Ljubljana) and between the cities (Ljubljana-Piran). What makes a good programme? An inventive combination of new and old, global and local, established and alternative, progressive and traditional, sunny and dark, serious and fun, seating and dancing and gender-balanced. Favourite festival memory? Accompanying the 15-piece Romanian group Taraf de Haïdouks at Ljubljana train station with hundreds of kilos of luggage. They were on a European tour by bus and needed to be transferred to a late-running train from Venice to Budapest and Timisoara at 3am. Clearly one of the funniest moments in my life.
