BNP Paribas focuses on healthcare
BNP Paribas Leasing Solutions UK has announced the launch of a healthcare division, focusing on the optical, hospital and pharmacy markets among others.
BNP has had experience in financing sectors in the healthcare market such as optometry equipment for more than 40 years.
Nick Hoof, the newly appointed head of healthcare sales, said: ‘I am delighted to be leading the healthcare business at a time when the UK market is expanding rapidly. To support this rapid growth, BNP has ambitious plans to offer businesses across the industry the finance solutions and technology they need to better serve their patients now and in the future.’
Steve Redgrave backs diabetes campaign Sir Steve Redgrave joined up with Specsavers and RNIB to highlight the risks of blindness linked to diabetic retinopathy during this year’s Diabetes Week campaign (June 11-17).
The former Olympic rower explained that after being diagnosed with type two diabetes in 1997, losing his sight was one of his biggest worries.
Redgrave said: ‘An estimated one million people in the UK are living with the condition without even realising it – meaning they’re at huge risk of developing serious eye health complications and even sight loss.’ According to joint research, 40% were unaware that blindness is one of diabetes’ biggest complications.

The worldwide licensing agreement meant the manufacture of design technologies developed by the Brien Holden Vision Institute would improve the SynergEyes presbyopic package with the latest hybrid contact lens designs, a statement said.
James Kirchner, president and CEO of SynergEyes, said: ‘Working with a recognised worldwide leader like the Brien Holden Vision Institute, we plan to bring an extended depth-of-focus lens design onto the hybrid platform to the global market.’
No7 promotes Jon Saunders Jon Saunders has been promoted to account manager for EyeDream at No7 Contact Lenses.
Saunders joined the company 12 years ago as a lab technician and then progressed onto the technical department, where he worked on the help desk for several years.
‘We are concentrating on front of house training for EyeDream to ensure that everyone in the practice is able to promote the great benefits that Ortho-k offers. Myopia control is a major topic which we are focusing on with education, information and marketing support: practices can get on-board with us and be very successful,’ Saunders said.

Vision Van ventures to Tenerife for Grand event
Vision Express took its new Vision Van to GrandVision’s annual conference in Tenerife this month.
The Vision Van has journeyed around the UK offering free eye tests to the public, as well as helping to raise awareness of the importance of regular eye tests, particularly for drivers.
The vehicle appeared at the GrandVision conference to allow delegates from more than 40 countries across the world to see the eye testing facilities on board the glow in the dark lorry.
Jonathan Lawson, CEO for Vision Express, pictured inside right, said: ‘We are extremely proud to have developed the new concept Vision Van in the UK. We’ve had incredibly positive feedback from our corporate and charity partners, as well as at government level, so we thought it only fitting to bring the Vision Van to Tenerife and introduce it to our global GrandVision colleagues.
