Dear Readers,

Win: An exclusive limited-edition Glyndebourne Der Rosenkavalier Director’s Chair by Erté PLUS: Four tickets to see the RSC’s Romeo and Juliet, and an overnight stay and year’s supply of flowers from Bloom &Wild For those of us who have always admired Ben Fogle, it should come as no surprise to discover that his mother, the actor Julia Foster, remains one of his main sources of inspiration. Fans of classic films will remember her remarkable roles in Alfie and Half a Sixpence, and more recently in Alan Bennett’s stage play, Allelujah! Her gung-ho spirit encouraged Ben’s own, while his devotion to animals owes much to his father, the celebrity vet Bruce Fogle. Theirs is a family devoted to pets of all shapes and size, so I have no doubt they will love the poems for cats we are running in this edition. Most of us can only dream of being able to paint like the artist Peter Robinson, who painted our magical cover stars, Two Friends. Peter first started drawing cats when he was five years old and has gone on to become one of our finest feline artists. I’m not sure if he writes poetry as well, but most of us have at least a few rhyming lines in us, and I am hoping the cat poems written by great writers will inspire you to pick up your pen and enter our reader poetry competition on page 25. I hope you will also take inspiration from our winter wedding fashion pages – outfits of every hue that will get you through any kind of big day. Alternatively, you might want to just stay home and try out one of Reese Witherspoon’s delicious recipes and invite some friends round. Who can resist the smell of fresh baking on an autumn day? Until November 2nd, best wishes, Sam Taylor, Editor
