Dear Readers, Can you ever be too posh for a hand me-down? Her Majesty, The Queen and several of the younger royals are constantly proving that the answer is a firm No. Recycling or Passing On are now two of the most stylish fashion statements. I doubt that our cover star, the utterly adorable Prue Leith, throws much away. Like all good cooks, she is a firm believer in the ‘waste not, want not,’ maxim. Not that the star of The Great British Bake Off thinks of herself as great. ‘I’m not the best cook I know’, she tells us exclusively. However, the proof is in the pudding and the recipes in her first cook book for 30 years are some of the best we have ever tried so do take a well-deserved bow Prue.

‘Be inspired and enter our reader poetry competition’

here is a belief that eating the things we adore is not terribly good for us, but as Wellness expert Caroline Howd explains, the route to Wellness is not all about denial; once you get going it can be terrific fun. I’m not sure how the winners of our Podgy Pets Slimming Club felt about having to give up biscuits and leftovers, but some of the results were incredible. Sadie the Labrador lost an incredible 1 stone 10lbs. What a good girl! Being in touch with our emotions is another key way to achieve Wellness, as is laughter, and both are combined in John Kenney’s wry and joyous Love Poems. Hopefully they will encourage you to enter our reader poetry competition – you never know until you try. After 15 years, our very own Gillian, known to many of you as our wonderful Letters editor, has decided to go in search of adventure. First stop is Korea! We’re looking forward to the postcards although with so many glorious places in our Holidays in Britain feature, why go so far?

ntil January 18th, best wishes Sam Taylor, Editor
