One of the club’s legends could become a fixture once more in the Belle Vue stands…

JOE Screen appeared lost to the sport for good – but he’s back thanks to his teenage daughter!
Former national title winner Screen drifted away as he focused on the family business and another one of the British greats, a World Under-21 Champion, seemed gone from speedway.
But Belle Vue bosses Adrian Smith and Mark Lemon welcomed him and daughter Jessie with open arms when Jessie wanted to go to the National Speedway Stadium to see what Dad used to do. As the Aces prepare for a fifth season at the magnificent venue, there was sad news just before Christmas with planning permission granted for over 100 homes on the site of their former track next door on Kirkmanshulme Lane. First Hyde Road, now the Greyhound Stadium. Thank goodness, then, the National Speedway Stadium dream was realised in 2016 and the Aces will challenge for the Premiership play-offs again.
Screen will always be a Belle Vue legend and one of the most spectacular riders to ever grace Kirky Lane, which is where the club moved once Hyde
Road fell to the bulldozers.
Planning permission for housing means the imminent demise of the last dog track in the North West and another savage blow to the Stock
Car industry following the closure of Coventry and Stoke.
