Freud's Origins Sigmund Freud was born into an unprosperous Jewish family in 1856. His place of birth was above a blacksmith's forge in Freiberg, N. Moravia, at that time part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. He was talented, ambitious and wanted to become famous.
