Compline Night, and my offering is due, I have electronics, touch screens, apps, My stall is cold, a candle casts white flush Of death across my hands; Sacrifice, the ever-sacrifice – Table, Bread, Wine, flesh, flesh, flesh – Awaits, deeper in the dark, Further away than ever before, O God make speed to save us. My knees crack on stone, oh prayer, Holy Ghost! Come! If, and if all things, Defend us from perils, dangers of night. I search whitewashed walls for glimpse – Flick of feather, magic-light, dove – I look down. Backlit icons await my grasp.
