Editor’s letter DEAR READERS, What a difference a year makes. Twelve months ago the question ‘Have you had it?’ referred to whether or not one had contracted covid; now it’s a query about your vaccination status. April sees the lifting of some lockdown measures and the chance to meet friends and family again, although psychologists (and our very own Mary Killen) are predicting that some people may find the return to normality and a more active social life something of a challenge. In fact, some of us have found positives in the past year. Actor Robert Lindsay has suffered from depression, periodically, throughout his adult life but says lockdown actually helped what he calls ‘the glooms’. He’s now preparing to star in a new West End production of the Cole Porter classic Anything Goes and, as he tells Richard Barber, we could all do with a little light relief right now. On a holiday to the South of France as a twentysomething I was mesmerised by the glamour of the women, young and old, walking along seaside promenades dressed in eye-catching skirts or little black dresses accessorised with stunning scarves. Now I know that many of them were devotees of the Italian fashion house Pucci. A lavish new book pays tribute to these iconic designs and former fashion magazine editor Maggie Alderson has been given a sneaky peek. Also in this issue, Ciar Byrne explores the history behind the famous Exbury Gardens in the New Forest, founded by the Rothschild family, while Mary Novakovich has recommendations for how to enjoy a British holiday on foot – safely and socially distanced. My husband is a wonderful but extremely messy cook, so I’m looking forward to trying the simple-but-delicious recipes in our food section that can be made and served in one pot. Editor’s letter

DEAR READERS,

What a difference a year makes.

It could revolutionise our kitchen!
