About Magma Magma is distinct from other poetry magazines because each issue has a different editor. The editorship circulates among the group that runs the magazine, with an occasional guest editor. Each editor brings his or her particular interests to bear, resulting in poems and emphases that no one else in the group could have predicted . The group is united by its commitment to the best in contemporary poetry, whether from new or little-known poets or the more established. We look for poems which give a direct sense of what it is to live today - honest about feelings , alert about the world, sometimes funny, always well crafted. Magma includes reviews of current publications and thoughtprovoking prose. The views expressed are those of the individual authors- Magma seeks to present a range of views not a single Magma view. We publish three times a year in spring , summer and winter, with a selction of poems and articles on our website.
Magma 35 is edited by Tim Robertson , who has just been appointed director of the Koestler Trust for arts in prisons. lt is designed by Neil Jarvis, a freelance graphic designer. Except where credited otherwise , all photographs are by Caroline Ellis , a Brighten-based photographer (cariellis@mac.com).
The launch reading for Magma 35 is at 8pm on Monday 3 July in the Coffee-House Poetry series at the Troubadour Coffee House, 265 Old Brompton Road, London SW5 (email CoffPoetry@aol.com). The nearest tube station is Earl's Court. The guest poets are Wendy Cope and Alicia Stubbersfield . Admission is the normal Coffee-House charge of £5 .50 (£4 .50 concessions).
Magma 36 (November 2006) will be guest edited by Anne-Marie Fyfe who has invited poems on "lnscapes: poems of the inner self, of secret thoughts, streams of consciousness, interior monologues, altered states of mind ... " The launch is on 4 December at the Troubadour.
Magma 37 (February 2007) will be edited by Laurie Smith .
At the Ledbury Poetry Festival (30 June-9 July 2006) Magma is sponsoring a reading by Don Paterson , the festival's poet in residence. We will have a stall at the event. Box office tel. 0845 458 17 43.
Obtaining Magma You will find an Order Form on page 80 . Subscribing by Standing Order is the simplest way and will bring you Magma at a reduced rate .
Contributing to Magma You are welcome to send us unpublished poems by post or email. Deadlines are end of February, midJuly and end of October. Poems are considered for one issue only. Postal contributions must be accompanied by an s.a.e . if posted in the UK, and with sufficient International Reply Coupons if posted from abroad. The contributor's name must appear on each page. Contributions should include an email address whenever possible, and all those including one will be acknowledged .
