Duncan Minshull
– Afterword –
I hope these footsteps across the page, dear walker-reader, taken from familiar and not-so- familiar sources, give you something to think about before the next outing. Of course, shorter utter- ances, even one-liners, also hit home. The best of these should be inscribed on coffee cups, writ large on T-shirts, or at least try reciting them as you make your way. But out of earshot. You don’t want others thinking – ah, here’s another of those rambling types. What follow, then, are some of my favourite walking-wisdoms now passed on to you; though never to be declaimed – just whisper them at the ground that’s beneath your feet. It is good to collect things, but better to go on walks. – Anatole France
If I couldn’t walk fast and far, I should just explode and perish. – Charles Dickens
Health and salvation can only be found in motion. – Søren Aaby Kierkegaard
I have two doctors, my left leg and my right. – George Trevelyan
