Editor’s letter DEAR READERS, I always love the run-up to Christmas, but this year seems a little extra-special: the chance to reconnect properly – and safely – with family and friends after last year’s lockdown is something I know millions of us are relishing. It also means a return to festive list-making, party-planning and gift-buying. With that in mind we have corralled our team of columnists and contributors to supply the best advice, opinions and memories when it comes to the festive season. Our advent recipe special has already given me some ideas for home-baked gifts, while gardening columnist Ciar Byrne has taken a masterclass in festive wreath-making. Books guru Maggie Alderson, who is currently writing another novel, has taken time off to pen a short story exclusively for us, and Jilly Cooper takes a look back at the etiquette of Christmas cards. Our team has tried and tested our quiz of the year, and the debate is still on about whether the winning scores were a result of secret Googling or true recall. Please do tell us how you, your family and friends do against each other. Also in this issue our travel editor Mary Novakovich has come up with some perfect suggestions for winter holidays to beat the post-festive blues. One of my favourite actresses, Juliet Stevenson, talks to Richard Barber about why she’s finally decided to get married, and Richard Wilson tells Maureen Paton about life as a sitcom anti-hero and taking on new challenges. I know this time of year can seem very commercial, so I urge you to take a look at our special feature that celebrates the work of charities. They work tirelessly to support those who need help, whether it’s people in need of support as a result of ill-health or animals that have been neglected, abused or abandoned. A donation or legacy can make a huge difference to these organisations. And finally, a very merry Christmas to you all, and here’s looking forward to 2022. Thank you for reading us, for all your letters, emails and suggestions and for all your wonderful support over the past year. Maxine Frith, Editor What’s new on lady.co.uk WIN! Editor’s letter

DEAR READERS,

I always love the run-up to Christmas, but this year seems a little extra-special: the chance to reconnect properly – and safely – with family and friends after last year’s lockdown is something I know millions of us are relishing.
