Celebrating online
As many of you are now aware, our Carriage Driving Awards ceremony is going online once again. We had hoped to celebrate with you all in person, but our original venue is continuing to be used as a vaccination centre, which is good news for all those who have yet to be boosted. Therefore, we had to look elsewhere, and at the same time find a space that could accommodate us all, and keep within the current, and everchanging guidelines. With uncertainty around the virus, and concerns from those travelling from far away, we decided the safest option was to go virtual.
This does mean we can share the amazing success and achievements of our nominees and winners with carriage driving enthusiasts across the globe. Last year people joined us in their thousands to view the event, and I am really looking forward to all the videos sent in by the winners of each category. My goodness horses and ponies always seem to know how to steal the show.
Put the date in your diary, Sunday 27th March, put on your glad rags, although you can keep your slippers on, get the nibbles and fizz ready for an evening to celebrate all the remarkable people, and equines who strive to make this wonderful world of carriage driving what it is. Full details on how to join in the celebrations are on page 9.
Whilst I am on the subject of dates, I know this may seem rather odd, but I have been thinking about the next Carriage Driving calendar. Around November time we start to put it together and always ask you to send in your photos taken throughout the year. These are the smaller images at the foot of each month. Although we cannot fit in every photo we receive, we do try to fit in as many as possible.
So, as the year progresses, and seasons change, if you have captured an image of your horse, pony or donkey in the snow, at an Easter parade or simply out driving in the countryside, then do send it in and we will do our best to include it in the 2023 calendar.
Still on the subject of dates, although some events did manage to go ahead last year, many were sadly cancelled. In this issue, we are thrilled to be able to share the positive news about the return of much missed shows and events – from coaching meets to the Suffolk and Shire Horse Shows.
Looking forward to catching up with you all.
