SAGE celebrates World Press Freedom Day with Index on Censorship app offer

London, May, SAGE have announced that the 30-day subscription for Index on Censorship app will be available for 59p from 3rd to 9th May 2010 to mark World Press Freedom Day.

In keeping with Index on Censorship's support of World Press Freedom Day, the price of the 30-day subscription will drop to 59p (99c) for 7 days. World Press Freedom Day (3rd May) reminds governments of their duty to respect and uphold the right to freedom of expression.

The app can be downloaded for free with some sample open access content and the opportunity to upgrade to the full version at £1.79 for a 30-day subscription through in-app purchasing after the offer. This gives subscribers full access to the latest issue of Index on Censorship and the previous two years of back issues. A YouTube demonstration can be seen here.

The March 2010 issue, 'Brave New Words', focuses on the development of technologies, from CCTV to Twitter, and the implications these have for free speech. "Index on Censorship plays a major role in protecting and promoting free expression, as does World Press Freedom Day," said Clive Parry, Global Marketing Director, SAGE. "This discounted offer with Exact Editions makes it easy for individuals to subscribe to Index online."

The app was developed by Exact Editions, the London-based digital publishing company, who work with magazine, newspaper and book publishers to market and sell online and app versions of their titles.

Exact Editions are one of the leading forerunners of the 'freemium' model in magazine publishing, allowing users to get a feel for the app before paying for it. The app also features pageflow for browsing, full search and can be synced to an iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch device for offline reading.

Daryl Rayner, Managing Director of Exact Editions says that "magazine publishers are viewing the 'freemium' model as a great new way to promote the quality and richness of their publications. We're pleased we can offer Index on Censorship as a practical resource accessible anytime on the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad."

About Index on Censorship

Index on Censorship is the only magazine devoted to protecting and promoting free expression. International in outlook, outspoken in comment, and publishing some of the world's finest writers, Index exposes stories that are suppressed, publishes banned writing, initiates debate and gives breadth to news that has often been "dumbed down" in the world's media.

About Exact Editions

Since 2005, Exact Editions has been delivering its technology platform, which replicates and aggregates exact copies of printed publications for web distribution and iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad apps. The platform makes all text searchable, and information including email addresses, URLs, Tables of Contents and telephone numbers are rendered clickable links to aid navigation.
